The countdown to the start of the new club season, both domestically and on the European stage is on for the reigning Slovenian champions, ACH Volley Ljubljana. Today, Igor Kolaković’s team is heading to a strong preparatory tournament in Poland, where they will compete against Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray and two Polish teams, Warta Zawiercie and Trefl Gdańsk. The new Slovenian league season begins next weekend with an away match against Maribor, followed just a few days later—on Thursday, October 22—by the first European challenge of the season: the first-round CEV Champions League qualification match against the Dutch champions Orion Stars in Doetinchem, in the east of the Netherlands.

Ahead of the team’s departure for the Polish tournament, ACH Volley Ljubljana has announced another high-profile addition to its already strengthened roster. The club has signed Jan Klobučar, a long-time member of the Slovenian national team and an outstanding outside hitter, most recently playing for Virtus Fano in Italy. The 32-year-old Klobučar, who previously wore the orange jersey between 2012 and 2015, returns to Ljubljana to reinforce a squad with ambitious goals.

Standing at 196 cm, Jan Klobučar hails from Šoštanj and has had an impressive international career over the past decade, playing in Germany (United Volleys Rhein-Main), Poland (MKS Będzin), Italy (Gas Sales Piacenza, Virtus Fano), and France (Narbonne), as well as for Calcit Volley in Slovenia between 2020 and 2024. With the Slovenian national team, Klobučar won three silver medals at the European Championships (2015, 2019, and 2021).

Upon signing with the club, Klobučar shared his thoughts: “I’m happy that the club initially offered me the opportunity to train with the team, which then led to an agreement and this new collaboration. The team has exceptional quality, and I want to contribute to achieving its ambitious goals. I know all the guys very well, and the atmosphere in the locker room is fantastic. I’m excited to return to Tivoli Hall and to wear the orange jersey again.”

The club’s management and Klobučar will define the terms of the cooperation as the season progresses and will inform the public accordingly.
