Captain of the Macedonian national team is a new addition to the ACH Volley Ljubljana team
ACH Volley Ljubljana continues with the recruitment process after the arrival of two Slovenian and two Serbian players. This time they welcome the captain of the Macedonian national team Nikola Gjorgiev to the Dragons' Nest.
The 33-year-old experienced Macedonian, who plays as opposite, has represented the colours of many European giants in his career, most notably Paris Volley, VfB Friedrichshafen and İnegöl Belediyesi, from where he is transferring to Ljubljana. His path also took him to the Land of the Rising Sun, where he won the Japanese title with Toray Arrows in the 2016/2017 season. ACH Volley Ljubljana will be the 11th club in Gjorgiev's rich career.
The 196 centimetres tall Gjorgiev has already drawn attention to himself with his top performances both in the national team jersey and in the club colours. For three years in a row, he has been voted the best opposite spiker in the second-tier national team competition - the European Silver League.Gjorgiev is also an old acquaintance of the Slovenian public, as he defeated Slovenia in the group stage of the 2019 European Championships.
After signing the contract, Gjorgiev said, "I am very happy and honoured to be joining such an organised club. I have been following ACH since I was a little kid and it was always my goal to play here one day. I have fond memories of Ljubljana, because it was here that I won the 2019 European Championship with the Macedonian national team against the home team." Gjorgiev also did not hide his excitement about the squad for next season, adding: "The team that is being assembled for next season is very strong and capable of leading the club to all the domestic laurels and to a resounding result in European competitions. Thank you ACH Volley for your trust."
The new reinforcement of the Orange Dragons is currently on a well-deserved break until 11 July, when he and the North Macedonian national team will start preparations for the upcoming European Championships, which will take place in September.
We welcome you to Ljubljana!
