On Wednesday, 9 November, at 20.00, ACH Volley Ljubljana will play the first match of the group stage of the elite Champions League, where they will take on one of the best teams in the world, Sir Sicoma Monini from Perugia, Italy.
The Orange Dragons left for the away game on Monday, after the last morning training session in Hala Tivoli, from where they travelled by bus to Perugia.
The situation of the Ljubljana team is normal, as all players are available to coach Gačić. ACH Volley Ljubljana will have their first indoor test at today's evening training session, and tomorrow morning they will have a second training session before the evening match.
The opponent, Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia, has a number of stars in its team, including the MVP of this year's World Championships, hosted by Slovenia and Poland, Simone Giannelli, the Cuban receiver with a Polish passport Wilfredo Leon and Kamil Semeniuk, the MVP of last year's Champions League. The team from central Italy also features Slovenian national team setter Gregor Ropret, who previously represented ACH Volley.
Coach Radovan Gačič and libero Jani Kovačič talked about their expectations before the match.
Radovan Gačič: "We are aware that Perugia is a clear favourite in the Champions League opener. That's why we can play relaxed and show our best game. We'll see what that means for the final result tomorrow."
Jani Kovačič: "The most elite competition in club volleyball is about to start and we are looking forward to it. In November, we have three very important matches in the Champions League, two of them at home in front of our fans.
