The Champions League begins for the Slovenian champions
For the current national and cup champions, ACH Volley Ljubljana, the elite Champions League starts with Thursday's match against the Trentino Itas team. The Orange Dragons compete in Group B, which, in addition to the currently top-ranked team in the Italian Super League, includes Polish Asseco Resovia, represented by Slovenian national team player Klemen Čebulj, and French Tours VB.
In the current part of the season, Ljubljana has recorded eight wins and one loss in the domestic championship, facing a series of injuries that they have almost completely healed by the start of the European season. Trentino Itas's volleyball players are having everything go according to plan this season. The team coached by Fabio Soli, which also includes Slovenian national team player Jan Kozamernik, has yet to suffer a defeat in the highly competitive Italian championship, winning six consecutive matches and announcing a battle for the title of Italian champion.
The Orange Dragons head to their first away game in Italy on Wednesday in the early morning hours. They will face the test of the arena in the Wednesday evening slot and again on Thursday in the morning hours. The spectacle at ilT quotidiano Arena begins at 8:30 PM.
Statement by coach Radovan Gačič before the opening match of the Champions League: "We are excited to start playing in the Champions League, where we will try to show our best and make it as difficult as possible for the favored opponents. We have our plans, and we believe that with the right energy and approach, we can achieve them. By the end of November, we first face a challenging away game in Trentino against one of the best teams in the world, followed by a match against the Polish team in front of a full Tivoli Hall in Ljubljana."
Statement by ACH Volley Ljubljana player Matic Videčnik: "The eagerly awaited start of the elite Champions League is ahead of us. First, we are going to the Italian team Trentino, whose team lineup and quality are at the highest level. This does not mean that we do not have our goals and plans, which we will try to implement in every Champions League match. We are motivated and determined to show that, despite extremely strong opponents, we are also a challenging team, especially in front of amazing fans in Tivoli Hall."
