A resounding reinforcement in the ranks of ACH Volley Ljubljana - Koncilja is coming
Danijel Koncilja is a new name in the Orange Dragons' team, which is coming off a very successful season with three trophies. The club and the player have signed a two-year contract.
Koncilja spent the last five years in France, where he made a strong impression, winning the French title with Cannes in 2021/22 and being one of the key players of the team.
Koncilja started his career as a young and talented volleyball player at the Žužemberk Volleyball Club. In 2009, he moved to Prvačina in Nova Gorica, then to Salonit Anhovo (2011). Soon after, he played for the Austrian club SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (2013) and then for the Italian team Kioene Padova (2016). He then moved to France, first to Nice to join Nice Volley-Ball (2017), and for the last four seasons he has successfully represented the French first league team AS Cannes.
The 31-year-old from Dolenjska can also be proud of his national team success, when he won his first medal with the Slovenian national team at a major competition in 2015. The 201 centimetres tall Koncilja is known for his attractive attacking play, where he is extremely difficult to stop, and can also play as a opposite. Koncilja said on the occasion of signing with ACH Volley Ljubljana: "I am extremely happy to be returning to Slovenia, where I started my volleyball career, after almost ten years of playing abroad. I am grateful and proud to be wearing the jersey of the best club in the region, which this year proved that it belongs to the very top of volleyball in Slovenia and beyond. We have many challenges ahead of us, but I am confident that with this team we can reach for the highest goals, including in the Champions League."
On Saturday, Danijel will play his last league match in the French championship, away in Toulouse.
