Slovenian champions start preparations for the new season
The current national and cup champions, the volleyball players of ACH Volley Ljubljana, started their preparations for the new season yesterday. Six players, Alen Šket, Matic Videčnik, Jaka Sešek, Primož Mejal, Klemen Šen and the Dragons' returnee Jan Pokeršnik, took part in the opening training session. The rest of the players will join the team after the national team campaigns are over. Marovt, Najdič and Kržič are currently representing Slovenia at the Under-19 World Championship in Argentina and will join the team on 21 August. Captain Gjorgiev will join the Orange Dragons after the European Championships, where the Slovenian national team with Jani Kovačič and Danijel Koncilja will be targeting the top spots. Jani and Danijel will have to spend the autumn with the national team and chase their Olympic dream at the qualification tournament in Japan.
Ljubljana coach Radovan Gačič summed up his thoughts at the start of the preparations, "We are starting our preparations for the new season, with six players currently available, and the rest will gradually join the team. The goals for this season remain the same as always, first place in the national and cup competitions, and the best possible performance in the Champions League and possibly qualification for the knockout rounds. I believe that these goals are achievable. The team has undergone a lot of changes since last season, but there is enough time to put things in place."
The ACH Volley Ljubljana team will play a series of preparation matches before the start of the competitive season, which starts on 7 October with a match against Salonit from Kanal.
